Are You Waiting?

Have you ever said to yourself, “When such and such happens, that is when I’ll be able to do XYZ”? I’m sure at some point you have said that. We are all so good about waiting until conditions are perfect before we take the right measures to do something. For instance: When the kids are in school, I’ll have time to exercise. But do you?

While working with older patients, I’ve often heard many of them comment, “If I only took care of myself when I was younger”. The younger patients often say that they will be able to take better care of themselves when they are older because they just don’t have the time right now. Well, NOW is the time no matter what your age.

Believe it or not, you have a comfort level that you try to maintain. If you are running around like a chicken without your head all of the time, it doesn’t matter how long the kids are in school for... you will always fill your day up with running around before you take time to exercise. SLOW DOWN and set your health priorities!

Sometimes you need to set a standard to live up to and just take action. Figure out what you can cut out in your day in order to have the time to exercise today! Even setting the perfect time can help. For instance, exercising as soon as you wake up ensures that you have time. Nothing else happened yet to consume that time and when you are finished exercising you already did it! Then you’ll feel great for the rest of the day to boot!

There is just no going back in time to do things differently when you are older and you realize that your health is failing. You can only move forward from that point on. Therefore, follow the old saying when it comes to your health: Never put off ‘till tomorrow what you can do today!
