Are You Ignoring It?
A big story has recently come out of Cambodia… It seems that an eight year old girl who disappeared 18 years ago has been found. Although her identity has not been 100% verified, what is certain is that this jungle girl has not lived in society for many, many years. When she was discovered, her skin was blackened with dirt, her hair had grown down to her knees and most notably, she doesn't have the ability to speak except 4 words: mother, father and stomach ache.
What this proves is that even though she had eight years of living in a society, and communicating as any other eight year old would in that part of the world, after being removed from it and living for years in an environment where language wasn't necessary she actually forgot all the words she ever knew. The meaning of this is profound... It shows that if you don't practice something constantly, no matter how good you are at it, you can lose the ability to do it all.
Unfortunately, I have found this to be the case with people’s health. Many people today ignore the signs and symptoms of their body and wonder what happened to them and why they became so sick. Now granted we can’t take a sick day for every sniffle, but we can cut out a TV show and go to bed an hour early that night. If we don’t tune into our bodies we will lose the ability to read the signs and symptoms are bodies are telling us. Another problem today is covering up those signs and symptoms so we are forced to ignore them. YOUR BODY IS TALKING TO YOU… YOU BETTER LISTEN!
When your body has a fever, it is telling you it has an infection and it is fighting it off the best way it was designed to…not that it is deficient in Tylenol.
When your body is in pain, it is telling you there is a problem with the area that is giving the pain symptom and the cause of the pain needs to be addressed…not that the pain needs to be covered up with different modalities.
When your body is tense and agitated, it is telling you it is stressed and the stressor needs to be removed…not that it needs alcohol, anti-anxiety drugs or other artificial releases.
