Clutter

De-Clutter For LIFE!

One of the many ways we burden ourselves without realizing it at all is to hang on to way too many things. Whether we know we will need it at some point in the future, or we just want to hang on to it for sentimental reasons, that extra item will stay in our lives until we actually take measures to use it or get rid of it. I’m sure you have been to stores where everything is messed up and unorganized, but you continue to shop there because the prices are great. Or, on the other hand, you may have been to a store that was very organized and you felt quite relaxed shopping. Compare your house and your lifestyle to those two different stores and evaluate where your situation is. Is it time to de-clutter?

Believe it or not, when we hang on to things our brain is aware of it and will put aside space for it. For example, three years ago you bought a bread machine because you thought of the ease of making homemade bread. Then you decided after two uses that it was a little more complicated than you thought and put it in your attic to use in a few years when you retire. Well, every time you think about retirement or bread your brain will spark that little area that you put the bread machine away for retirement, and you will think about the necessity of acting on making bread after retirement. This can be quite a burden for our brains when you think of the many things that we have “hanging around”.

Therefore, one of the best ways to clear up our brains is to de-clutter our lives. Take some time every day to go through the stack of papers on your desk and organize them appropriately. Feel free to donate those clothes that are too small. When you lose the weight you are working at losing, reward yourself with some new clothes that are in style! You’ll be amazed at how much better you feel when you let go of some of the clutter!

Sherry Lee Denton of The Orderly Touch in Jonesboro helped organize Chiropractic Solutions. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking to de-clutter and get organized. If you like how our office looks, then you’ll love Sherry. She can be contacted at (770) 707-1044 or emailed at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Visit www.theorderlytouch.com for more details. Of course let her know that we referred you!  She also does virtual organizing over the internet.  It is really awesome!

IKEA is also a great place to go to get ideas on how to set up areas that can be more efficient.

A great book is Getting Things Done by David Allen. Many highly effective people use the system he recommends.

Of course, you are always in control of your life and ultimately need to decide what is the best system for you.
