Make it Easy to Catch Some Zzzzzzs

Restorative sleep is so important to our body’s ability to heal itself. Not getting enough restorative sleep makes your body feel the way you feel on one of those days when you are really stressed out and something else major goes wrong. You feel like if you were able to go on vacation and regroup, you could handle the whole situation so much better.

Here are a few tips to get some of that great restorative sleep:

  • Wear socks to bed. Your feet may feel cold before the rest of your body and wake you up. Keeping your feet warm can help you get to deeper levels of sleep.

  • No TV before bed. Television is usually stimulating to the brain and can make falling asleep take longer.

  • Keep the lights off. Making your room dark can help your body produce the chemicals it needs to heal. A sleep mask can even help with this.

  • As little light as possible. If you get up to go to the bathroom, keep the light you are using as dim as possible. A bright light can cause your brain to cease production of any chemicals used in the healing process.

  • Go before bed. A trip to the bathroom before bed can sometimes prevent you from getting up to go in the middle of the night.

Sometimes getting that all important sleep can be a cat and mouse hunt trying to find the best way to do it, however, the benefits are well worth it!

Those magical hours.

Between the hours of 11pm and 1am, your body, particularly the adrenal glands, is doing the majority of its recharging and recovering.

Also during this time period your gallbladder is dumping most of its toxins to be carried out of your system. Those toxins stop in your liver, further disrupting your health if you are awake during these hours.

Melatonin is produced in absolute darkness so keeping your room dark can help your body produce this natural sleep aid.
