Oil Change for 100 Bucks

Would you be willing to get a typical oil change for your car and pay $100.00 tomorrow? Sounds like quite a bit of money, doesn’t it? However, what if you found out that the expensive oil change would last two years? That means not taking your car to get that service for two whole years! Yes, you would pay 4-5 times as much, but you get about 8 times the value. When it is put in that light, it sounds like quite a deal!

When you are talking about value, it is not the price, but rather how much something is worth. What is the value of joining a gym and staying consistent with your workout? When you add in the health benefit, the worth can be priceless! What is the value of taking glucosamine chondroitin for your joint health? Is it the $34 that it costs a month or is it the pain free running that you can enjoy again? How much is that stop smoking course? What if it costs $300.00? What is it worth to stop smoking, extend your life enough to see your grandchildren graduate high school or even have children of their own? Can you honestly answer if that is worth $300.00?

See, when you base the cost of something solely on its price, you can really be missing out on a lot of benefits of that item or service. Also if you purchase something and don’t take advantage of all it has to offer, you are also missing out. Ironically after I give specific exercises to patients to do at home, they begin to do them and feel much better. Then life gets in the way and one of the first activities they cut is their exercises. When they come back into the office, they ask what they can do to feel better again. Of course I ask “are you doing those exercises?” The typical response is “not lately.” Once we get the patients doing those exercises consistently again, they feel better, thus, adding value to their care and to their life overall.

Remember, what something is priced at isn’t necessarily what it is worth. When you do some seemingly expensive things to benefit your health, the worth can really be priceless!

Life Value

Do yourself a favor and make a list of what you value in your health and in your life. For example, do you value being able to play on the floor with your grandchildren? Do you value the fact that you can go to work everyday? Do you value that your heart is working properly and hasn’t had any problems?

If you value these things write them down. Then take a moment and put the cost next to them. Would you pay $100 or 1 million dollars for your heart to function properly? Ponder on that this week and use that information before you do anything that may damage your health or before you decide something that will benefit your health costs too much money.
