Spring Cleaning

It Feels Like Spring Cleaning

Have you ever undertaken a task that seemed like a really good idea at first, but as you became more involved you began to wonder what you were ever thinking starting it in the first place? It is very much like spring cleaning. You go into one room and say, “this room is a mess. I’ll feel so much better if it were organized and cleaned up”. Then you joyfully start pulling things off of shelves, dusting, throwing things away, making various piles and stacks, and then you decide to vacuum the spider webs off of the items on the top of that bookcase.

As you turn around to get the vacuum, you sigh when you see your floor covered in stuff and realize that this is much more work than you expected and now you feel you’ll never get it finished! However, you know from the bottom of your heart, if you stick with it you will be able to complete it and you will feel even better than you first thought when you underwent the project to begin with.

Believe it or not, that is exactly how regaining your health is like: spring cleaning. We all get so excited about the prospect of not hurting, having more life and being able to think better. We set goals, buy products and new foods and maybe join a gym. Then we start getting into it and feel… HORRIBLE. Like the time we were spring cleaning and went to get the vacuum. This is the point in our health endeavor that we really need to stick with it in order to get those benefits.

What is happening is that your body is going through its own version of spring cleaning. Your body is sorting out what is good from what is bad and working to get rid of that which is bad. If we just allow our body to sort out the good from the bad and not clear out the bad, we haven’t gained much. If we let our body rid itself of the bad by continuing to work out, eat right, take supplements and get adjusted, your body will thank you for it immensely.

Doing the “towel roll” exercises or going through the neck orthotic protocol always feels like spring cleaning time. Your spine has adapted to its environment and when you try to correct the curvature of the spine various things happen within the body. You may begin to feel aches and pains in other areas than what you are used to as your body changes its form. These different aches and pains are usually normal since your body has to readapt to a new environment as you are doing the exercises. Once your body gets accustomed to the new curvature, your aches and pains diminish and you can move much better than you did before you began the exercises. That is the goal worth striving for and achieving! It truly is worth cleaning up “all the stuff in the middle of the floor” so you can achieve better health!
