In college, I wrote a term paper on the fascinating subject of Psychoneuroimmunology. Essentially where your thoughts affect your nervous system which, in turn, affects your immune system. We have all run across people who are down in the dumps quite often and they also seem to be sick quite often. Could their thoughts have something to do with their ailments?
It is possible since happiness will not only protect your body from stressors that can lead to coronary heart disease, but it can even boost your immune system's ability to fight off the common cold. But how can we be happy?
Happiness is a state of mind that cannot be long lasting with an outside in approach. Think back to a time when you said “If I only had _____, then I’d be happy.” That new car, that new home, even that new job doesn’t have enough power to maintain your happiness so after three or so months you are back to your usual state of happiness.
How do you find that prolonged state of happiness so you can stay healthier? It is easy to answer, but sometimes more difficult to do… find what truly gets you excited to get out of bed in the morning! If it is to change the world by educating children, do what it takes to go to school to get your teaching degree and educate those children!
Your immune response to fight off illnesses is strongly related to your emotional level. Do what it takes to keep your emotions on the positive side, keep your nervous system working, and your immune system boosted! Stay healthy and stay happy.
