Pain Tolerance

Source: St. Luis Post-Dispatch (11/18/2009)

This article explains how people can build their tolerance for pain.  That's important because some key parts of Dr. Hendricksen's Leaving Fibromyalgia Behind(TM) program are covered...

Importance of exercise:

For them, he also recommends yoga and other exercises to get them working in their individualized pre-pain range and push it over time.

McReynolds, his fibromyalgia client, has had success with this.

"There are times when I'm close to being pain-free," she said. "It's a matter of degrees. I go through periods when I'm too busy and don't do all my exercises, and then I feel pretty rocky."

Importance of breathing:

"A lot of people who have low pain threshold or chronic pain, also have poor breathing techniques," he said. "They breathe shallowly and don't use their diaphragms at all."

Stress and nutrition:

Stress, poor nutrition and lack of sleep seem to increase their frequency and intensity, Tucker says. Massage, stretching and other exercises appear to decrease them. Tucker thinks they unlock the brain and nervous system, breaking the chronic reflex loop, and in the process, raise the pain threshold.

All of these topics, and more, are covered in detail in Dr. Hendricksen's book, Leaving Fibromyalgia Behind(TM).  They are taught in an easy-to-follow and easy-to-understand way.  The best part is that Dr. Hendricksen is there to help you, every step of the way!  Click here for more information!
